Few months ago, I’ve preordered Absolver game on Steam and few days ago I was chosen to participate in pre-release beta test. The developers contacted me and provided me with the game installer. After installing the game I was unable to launch it because of steam_api.dll is missing error. The system error has popped up with the following text: “The program can’t start because steam_api.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem”. I’ve tried to reinstall the game multiple times, but it didn’t work. I’ve informed the developers but they told me that the error is in my system. So, I started to investigate what might cause the steam_api.dll is missing error and how to fix it.
After a few hours of searching on the Internet I found that steam_api.dll is missing error happens because the Steam dll library is missing from my computer. This prevented me from launching the Steam, which is necessary to pay the Absolver. The reinstallation of Steam didn’t fix the problem, because my antivirus blocked the installation of steam_api.dll library because, for some reason, it has suspicious activity according to antivirus policies. Anyhow, I found the way to fix the issue by manually installing the steam_api.dll library. Simply I’ve downloaded the steam_api.dll file from here: https://fix4dll.com/steam_api_dll and installed it according to the instructions provided on the website. After that I rebooted my computer and was able to launch the Steam and Absolver. Hope it will help all beta testers as well as others who will face the same problem.
