Fixing D3DCompiler_42.dll is missing error in The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind

When I attempted to launch The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind on my system using steam, I got a message stating, “The program can’t start because D3DCompiler_42.dll is missing. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.” I reinstalled the game, but it did not solve the issue. A friend of mine, who used Steam to install The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind, did not encounter this problem. I began to suspect that my computer had a virus, because I couldn’t even launch any of the other games I had played previously. I thought I had to reinstall Windows entirely to fix the D3DCompiler_42.dll error, but there was no need for that. There is another solution which is a lot easier.

After spending days searching the internet, I discovered some useful info that I will like to share with you. In the first place, there’s no need for you to reinstall the app that causes the D3DCompiler_42.dll cannot be located error. The error mainly appears whenever you attempt to run certain games. This file is a property of Microsoft Corporation, a program DirectX developed by the Microsoft Corporation. As soon as the game is launched, Windows also launches different scripts and loads all the necessary dll libraries, so D3DCompiler_42.dll happens to be one of the important libraries. Due to the fact that all the games make use of the same D3DCompiler_42.dll library, the file can become overwritten or damaged at once by different programs. Therefore, to fix the D3DCompiler_42.dll is missing system error, all you have to do is to go to and download, and then install the D3DCompiler_42.dll file.
